Setsucon 2012
I have been putting off this post for a while, but in the end I feel that I must write down my thoughts about it. Setsucon 2012 went fine. There was some behind the scenes drama but overall I think that the end result was fine. If there was one problem that I saw it was that the alumni cared too much.
I was guilty of this as well so I cannot say anything, but I felt like everyone showed up and just took it over. Personally I would rather seen the new guys have problems and work them out then for one of us to show up and fix it. When we first started there was no one around to help and I think that was the reason for our success. When we didn’t know we guessed.
All that said I do think that the new generation could benifit from some or of our wisdom. Every year poses new challenges and the alum are always willing to help if they are asked.
Right now I think that the best thing that can happen to Setsucon is for the old guard to back off. I am not saying back out, but just step back and let things happen. I have a feeling that we will be presently surprised.
